Weekly Trust - Saturday, 02 July 2011

Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, has apologized to members of the Jama’atul Alul Sunnah sect, popularly known as Boko Haram for the trauma that might have been caused them.

In a statement made available to Weekly Trust he said his apology is in response to a publication in the Daily Trust of June 24, 2011 where members of the sect demanded a public apology for perceived injustices caused to them, saying the sect members “have the full rights to be protected by the law and it forms part of my duty to ensure their rights are protected as guaranteed by the law”.
He said: “I hope this will further the healing of the trauma on Jama’atul Alul Sunnah members and other members of the public whom our actions were not directed against, but towards people understood to have taken the law into their hands.”
Yuguda also said he hopes his gesture will open the door to meaningful dialogue that will end hostilities and usher in peace for which the religion of Islam is all about.
